Data observability firm Acceldata has announced a new open source version of its data platform for enterprise users. The company says this open source offering delivers stable and community-validated versions of data observability libraries and supports public, private, and hybrid environments.

“The dream of an open source data platform has been a broken one, until now,” said Rohit Choudhary, founder and CEO of Acceldata. “The guardians of open source have a responsibility to be open, over protectionism, and we take that role seriously as we continue to participate in, support, and advance the community. Earlier in our careers, we used open source data tools, and subsequently, our team successfully built the world’s most comprehensive data observability platform. Now we are open-sourcing the platform and key data observability tools and sharing them with the community to adopt and advance these innovations to their benefit.”

Acceldata’s new open source project includes a data platform and six other projects, including libkpxy, an extensible protocol specific network packet parser. There is also wizard, an automation engine that allows users to define a set of actions in JSON format. All projects are available under the Apache License Version 2.0. The Acceldata platform will periodically synchronize with the open source branches, which the company says will allow the flexibility of adding new components as community and industry innovation continues to evolve.

The company lists the community benefits of its open source platform as the following:

  • Deployment automation that allows for manageability, observability, and package management
  • Flexibility to adopt technologies that provide elasticity and on-demand services in any environment
  • Tenants can consume and upgrade services without impacting other tenants
  • A platform that ensures consistency, maintainability, and stability of components through change cycles

“With the unrelenting data deluge, enterprise data observability continues to be an emerging, high-growth market,” noted Ashwin Rajeeva, co-founder and CTO of Acceldata. “Our founding team has contributed extensively to Apache projects over the years. We know that a reliable, low cost data platform that’s in step with the latest Apache open-source code will not only help to advance innovation in data observability but also benefit from the larger community collaboration with a shared mission.”

Acceldata was founded in 2018, and its most recent funding round saw the company raise $35 million Series B in September 2021. While enterprise data collection continues to expand, as well as investment into the related infrastructure needed to acquire, move, store, and process this data, observability into these systems is critical. Acceldata says its products offer observability across data quality, data pipelines, and system infrastructure, in real-time, using AI and machine learning algorithms. The company includes Oracle, PubMatic, and True Digital among its customers.

“Our Data Observability Cloud is purpose-built to help businesses simplify complex data operations, expand data usage, and meet growing business requirements, all while reducing costs and increasing data engineering productivity,” CEO Choudhary stated in a prior release. “From day one, Acceldata focused on improving access to comprehensive data observability capabilities that improve data pipeline reliability and performance, while increasing data engineering team productivity.”
